Travel In Europe - An Expensive Deal Poem by Jacson Gelato

If you want to go across the country
or if you want to travel to another big city in Europe
during the peak seasons like the summer holidays
or during Christmas or even at the week-ends,
the bus tickets become so unaffordable and expensive
that if one has not pre-booked the seats
or bought the tickets weeks or months in advance,
he has to pay exorbitant fare for the same ticket.

If you want to travel from Lisbon to Porto
or if you want to travel from Porto to Madrid
on the week-ends or during Christmas time
it costs much more than the normal fare one would pay
for the same journey on another usual day.

The weekends are the only days
people get off from work
and they wish to visit their families and friends
yet the bus tickets cost much more
when there is no extra fuel a bus requires
or when there is no hike in fuel prices
yet they charge much more than normal fare
which is so ridiculous and beyond one's imagination.

What is this world coming to?
When Covid virus is diluting all the thrills of life
yet the bus tickets don't get stabilized
but the government turns a blind eye
to the people's intention of safety
as they want to go home and be with their families;
but the Government instead of regularizing bus fares
and keeping standard charges for tickets
all thro' the days and months on all the routes
just ignore the helpless travelers facing the brunt
of excess charges for the same route?

If the government wants to make money
or improve its economy,
it is not right to over-charge travelers
with higher rates for the same bus journey
which otherwise bears nominal fare and is so affordable
but the week-end rates and the holiday rush rates
pinch the traveler's pockets.

When a government is supposed to be citizen-friendly
when a government is supposed to look after
its citizens needs and social welfare;
when a government is supposed to mobilize
and facilitate people's travel
when a government is supposed to be transparent
than how does a government not concern itself
to find out why the bus ticket prices get hiked
on the week-ends without any right reasons?

Also, the hotels hike their room-rates on the weekends
thus inconveniencing travelers
who are citizens of their respective countries
yet no authority cares to question the hoteliers
or ask the reasons for their acts of surplus charges f
or the rooms which on other days
bear standard rates and not double charges.

Since the hotels take the travelers on a ride
by hiking their room rates on week-ends
or in summer and at Christmas time
they brings down the financial enjoyment
of the travelers and tourists who want to celebrate
the seasons and the festivities with their families in unity.

Therefore the Government of respective countries
must take time and delegate their subordinates
to exercise control over such unfair situations
where bus fares, railway tickets and room rates
get hiked without any justification,

One of the best solutions to stop the hike in bus fares,
the respective government should increase its fleet of buses
and also declare the availability of seats on inter- net
so that people are not fleeced or prevented
from traveling when their hearts desire.

Government should avoid hike in railway ticket rates
as it is better the traveler does not lose his faith
in his government since all are not rich to afford
the unjustified increased charges of a train ticket
and lastly the room rates of hotels should be standardized
and hoteliers should not permitted
to hike room charges when the same services
are provided on other days at regular rates.
All these corrections in the public interest
will make our world a much more wonderful place to live.
