Under The Streetlight (In Amadora) Poem by Jacson Gelato

Under The Streetlight (In Amadora)

Faithfulness was in everything
in the sunrise, in the sunset
in the flowers in the park,
in the fruits that ripened every season
even in the dog that I had in my house.
I never knew what was betrayal
until the day you walked away
never to return, never to love me again.
Now you are walking in the city
holding your children by their hands;
I am still single without anyone to love
I cannot even think of love again
we loved each other for so many years
your betrayal has made my heart so numb
but I am submissive to my loneliness
for if you felt I could not make you happy
if you felt I was not the person
you could walk with for the rest of your life,
you made the right decision
as you are now with the happiness you wanted.
I am complacent to my life
though I am still sitting under the streetlight
looking for a partner to share
my dreams and tomorrows.
