Trenches Poem by Zakhele Anigon

Trenches

Rating: 4.5

Silence falls upon shattered links
Heavy, thick and restless it guards the words
Guards the unspoken truths of inner states
And dust gathers slowly
Building layer after layer walls of dirt
That hide us and make us feel protected
Protected from what?
Dirt is dirt and excused am I for losing the illusion of safety behind it
Safety is in movement
When life comes like drops of rain
Staying motionless is sure to get you drenched
And dirt becomes mud
Such safety makes us mad
Letting the rain clean everything away feels better
Cold it may be, making the skin tight and the muscles shaking
But that's what will make us tougher
Hardened like fine steel forged under the heaviest of hammers
So let life come and let it carve you, shape you, make you the finest of arts
A blank page is pure but not beautiful
Beauty demands shape and form
Beauty needs all kinds of ink on that blank page
And a thousand pictures may form, discernible only by such trained eyes
