Trenches - Poem by Rachel BaByBeAr Anderson

Rattle Rattle Rattle
the sound never stops
walking past the dugout
mud and water seep through wooden floors
Bang Bang Bang
it really hurts my ears
cant stand to be close
the pain it brings me tears
Whistle Whistle Whistle
go the shells as they fly
digging deeper into soil
shattering metal and grass
im glad im not out there top today, i doubt that i would last
Boom Boom Boom
scream the guns of enemy lines
shooting into our brave poor lads
i hear their sorrowfull pleas
i must admit it makes me sad
Scrurry Scurry Scurry
scratch the rats amongs the boards
lice ride along with them
a killing to aim if we get bored
the sounds never stop in this place
i hope it all ends soon
i should like to get back home
to watch the summer bloom
instead im stuck in mud and pits
waiting for the next bomb raid to hit
wondering if today i shall die
