True And Oh Well Poem by Diana van den Berg

True And Oh Well

I would have liked
to tell you
that
despite your sarcasm
and insensitivity
and insults,
I didn’t mean
to hurt you
and that you must have
misunderstood
something I said
somewhere
but I can hardly do that
if you don’t want
to have anything to do with me again!
So, all I can say,
though you won’t hear it,
is your
“True” and “Oh well”
and my
“Have a good life.”
