Tsunami Poem by J.B. LeBuert

Tsunami

The waves came on, fast through the dark night.
Thirty feet high and causing much fright.
The wall of water could not be stopped.
It came with a force that couldn't be topped.

The people ran for their lives, many screaming.
Could this be real, or were they all dreaming?
The force of the waves made most people weep.
They took the lives of some in their sleep.

The first wave caused a lot of destruction;
The second and third, destroyed construction.
Hawaii was next, what were they feeling?
Japan was devastated and reeling.

The submarine earthquake started it all.
Eight point nine was the largest to befall.
The warnings came, as quick as they should.
The people ran hard and fast as they could.

The pile of debris caused much remorse;
Along with Mother Nature's great force.
Some just couldn't escape the great wall
Of water, that came and shocked us all.

The death and destruction was so vast.
Japan took the brunt of the fatal blast.
They may recover in the years to come.
It'll never be the same again, for some.

We should take time now, to kneel and to pray;
For the dead and living families today.
There will be plenty, which we'll need to feed.
Lord please help us now, in our time of need.
