Tumor Poem by Jennifer Barnard

Tumor

Clenched jaw and heart
I rattle down the dumb street.
Neighbours fetch letters,
smooth pat doggy heads
play their hoses on wilting flowers
while laughing and yelling at their kids.

I consider the flow of ordinary things;
tomorrow, a certainy of frenzy
issue from a hundred canine throats.
