Because the road to our house
is a back road, meadowlands punctuated

Mark Doty is a literary giant! I am absorbed into the world of this poem. I breathe its air, I see its sights, I hear its sounds, and I feel the truths that shimmer just out of reach behind the swan and the turtle and the leather jacket propped up on the seat.... but the truths are important as they always are especially if they stay just out of reach
