From farms so small, a hungry plea,
Across the sea, for liberty.
Norway's fields, too tight and worn,
A new chance sought, a brighter morning.
Sailboats crossed, then ships of steam,
To chase a fertile, farming dream.
Midwest plains, a promise bright,
Clearing woods with all their might.
Log homes rose, against the frost,
Where hard work's value was not lost.
Churches they build, a central spot,
Where neighbors gathered, sharing a lot.
Now millions live, with roots run deep,
On western shores, and the plains they keep.
With parades bright, and songs they sing,
Of heritage, the joy they bring.
Lefse soft, and cookies sweet,
Traditions live, a welcome treat.
From olden days, the spirit's there,
Norwegian hearts, beyond compare.
