Ukelele Song Poem by Emma Atkinson

Ukelele Song

This feels like a mellow song,
Warm and yellow,
My friend,
Like a ukulele strumming its heart away.
I only hope we part this way,
Though I feel you have become
More than just a friend.

And this feels like some foolish little tune,
Lilting laughingly at the absurdity of this
As we sit talking under the moon.

It's a rather sad melody, come to think of it,
And I am growing rather sick of it,
Because of how it makes my heart ache.
I know it now, even more so,
That you are more than just a friend,
And I think my heart will break.

It's funny, this ukulele song,
And my feelings find no harmony with it,
Except in some melancholy chord,
As it swells too loud to be ignore.

My friend,
I don't want this night to end,
Or the ukulele to sing its last note
Before you hear the words I wrote.

I feel more blue than yellow,
The opposite of mellow,
Unlike this ukulele song.
It's a mellow song yes,
And in my heart, I must confess,
I feel far from that.

I need drums to echo my emotions,
And a flute to sing my woes.
I need all of those
But the calm of the ukulele song.
It feels so wrong,
My friend,
When you are so much more than that.
