The gossip was the Italian lady now 90 years of age and weighted on her cane had been quite beautiful when she was younger.
Over Espresso and chocolate or heavenly pastry at the local cafeteria, elderly people who were young and their souls whispered about her many lovers over the decades, many of them beautiful men leaving the planet early...
Some of them left through the gates of war then some others along the rugged pathways of illness.
Donatella's eyes burnt with moistness when she would hear the whispers and laughter as she picked out her favorite scone and a desirable cappuccino was made expressly for her.
Donatella would always leave with her things instead of sit, reasoning the cafeteria was too small for someone like her who had known so many times the passionate pleasure of love and the broken heart of love dying.
And, there were still men whose eyes spoke to her, the touch of their hands.
She would go to them, sit on a bench with them in the park and in due time, make the whispers burn beyond all fire yet again.
