Uncaring World Poem by Michelle Brummell

Uncaring World

Once upon a home

Once upon a time when the rivers run was true
A vision of peace only we once knew
The grass in the meadows luscious and green
Brown and dead as though never seen
Water flows crimson, drifting readily
Now feels desolate, distanced and unsteadily
Reminder of the broken place we called home
Riddled with anger like we've never known
A silent dessert of dust, remorse and regret
A fairy-tale we would sooner rather forget
Those of a time when escapism was key
Disappearing within an alternate reality
What is the meaning, what is the song?
How can this be as if we never belonged?
Does the fallen leave no save to grace
A tendered heart to the dangers we face
Lies and deceit with eyes open and staring
I reminder of the days when once there was caring
Forget the thought, the tears and emotions
Leave the drama to those with notions
Lay down upon the rocks jaggered edge
Sharp and cumbersome as I recite my pledge
Comforting, indifferent, no longer a source of fear
My body grows ever numb as I ponder graciously here
