Uncover Me Poem by Nabeela Black

Uncover Me

Somewhere in the dark of night a woman takes to flight
afraid to go, but even more terrified to stay
because now he knows and so life is always a fight day after day!
So with a baby on her side, a couple of diapers and fistful of fives
she runs into the loving arms of Jesus to hold her tight.

In Pakistan the women cry,
and in Bahrain the piles of gold and glitz can't hide
all the loneliness and pain and wishes to be seen
as person, not a thing;
someone to talk with - and not behind a screen.
And life could be so fruitful if only in Jesus he too believed.
Yes her hearts an open door - but he doesn't want to know more.

NO MORE you will not speak of or pray to this Jesus!
No more no more!
You can remain as Umm - mother to my children you bore
But you are disobedient, misguided, even mad
and to shameful to speak kindly to anymore.

Oh Lord, shall he never again consider me a faithful friend -
as God intended a marriage partner for?

So to every suffering sister on ‘lam'
When you cry, remember Jesus is there to provide.
They say you MUST believe he's just a man
but the Word and your heart tell you the truth -
Jesus is Savior, Counselor, Lord

And if now no man will claim you, He also becomes your Father, husband - and life long friend.
Who day by day will lift your broken spirit
and make your heart His home;
giving grace and power to endure your cross;
moments and places to find hope, peace and joy-
‘til you receive your final reward.

Oh Gypsy you wandered far before you truly found the Lord
but insha'allah my friend, He led you back to life.
From darkness you now are free.
You ran to Isa al-Masih and found true peace.
So lady Gypsy we hail you a queen in God's kingdom land.
Hallelujah! You're alive in the Spirit, and forever in God's hands.

And for all the woman you see in headscarf, or fully cloaked in black
She could be a long-lost sister, trying to get back on track.
Or she may have to live as a secret believer, singing praise to God only from her heart
But with a word or a glance, so often people target her and tear her apart.

In Algeria, Yemen, Denmark, Saudi and inside this land of liberty,
yes, even just up the road outside Philly,
lives - Gypsy.
One day this woman in hijab or fully cloaked in black
might say hello with a friendly smile.
Will you scowl or smile right back?

If you travel in Morocco, Indonesia or Pakistan
a 'Gypsy' in the crowded suq may see you and whisper a plea -
can we share quick cup of tea?

As you stand looking baffled and confused,
or reply in fear 'get away, who are you to me'?
You may be surprised as she reveals
'oh please, SISTER uncover the REAL me
for in Jesus I too believe'!
