Unending Season Poem by Curry Bascue

Unending Season

Some people have been through enough pain for it to last a lifetime.
I’m not feeling the pain you want me to feel though.
Through the changing seasons I learned how to shed the past,
To grow pasts where my roots feel safe,
Just to grow without hesitation I’ve let this go.
However… this isn’t a perfect solution.
You have trapped me in fall,
And a fallout with you.
All I want to say to my past is “It’s okay.”
Nights grow ever shorter though.
Less time of day for me to grow,
Because the sun that once greeted me with a smile,
And helped my growth,
Has hidden its face from me.
Just like you have.
Trapping time and attempting to contain me.
I could shed a tear,
But my world has grown cold.
Once I cry a tear,
I doubt it would have the strength to move from my eye…
The one place that shows signs of life and warmth through it all.
What can a once firm planted person do,
Other than staring at the sky that held precious memories..
And slowly feel cold as leaves fall.
Changing color as my feelings for you changed as well.
This tree was once looked as a shelter for children on warm days.
But those leaves are gone.
They’ve all fallen off as I feel the loneliness of a long winter day.
My skies have lost all color,
There is no more comfort in the vast sky.
But I’ll be okay,
Maybe someday I’ll see an eternal Spring and Summer.
I know someday my sorrows will end,
Whether you’re the reason or not.
