If I leave the poem unfinished today
Waiting to be fulfilled and brought
To satisfying conclusion
What different chance shall there be on
Some new mangled morning
Quite another turn from what might have
Laid the word to rest today
Time twisting the soul with so many new
Infractions
And so what is, and could be, with time
Becomes, something else, altogether
And yet, no less important, no less
Intrinsic to the very nature of the
Person
I must become.
And so—this choice:
An ending here, or one quite different,
Left on the table for another day.
