Unshed Tears Poem by Taressa Dunham

Unshed Tears

I gave up my chance to let them fall
I gave up my chance to be free of their burden
Now i sit here, trying to cry those old tears
My eyes sting
Because of the tears pushing to be shed
But its my fault, so feel free to blame me.
When it was their time to wet my cheeks,
Their time to fall from my eyes,
I sucked it up and looked the other way
Because i knew that if i did,
If i turned my back and acted stronger than i was,
The unshed tears would be forced back behind the dam
The dam that will not break, cannot break-
Because if it does, i will be revealed
And i will have to turn back and face the pain
The pain of the unshed tears.
