Unwanted Poem by Shirani Rajapakse

Unwanted

You placed me on
a shelf and left
me there to dry. I was
forgotten.
Like the old
newspaper
you spread on your
writing table to protect
the wood. It turned yellow
in time and you
threw it away one
day, not so long ago. I too
have faded. Would you
throw me out too?
