Up A Hill Poem by Scott Stevenson

Up A Hill

grow up, we grow up a hill
we, in shaky steps, nervous moves
we, in sweat and headaches tend to fear
the drama of getting experience
growing into our futures

further up and further in
to a top, lofty, in its own glory, we climb
to reach ourselves, we climb
we, with the heavy wishes we have no business making
with our bright eyes and pride, trudging
hiking climbing breaking our backs

up a hill to meet our new bodies
the strain of learning, and priceless rewards
further beyond our dark mistakes,
past our paperish woes in adolescence,
our brittle fleeting dreams,
our love bruises and dry hearts,
we climb
up
to a top, a summit above and ahead of our scope
above and beyond our narrow thinking

...to understand
every color God allows
we, with wounds and other devastations
we can still support our brothers,
one foot in front of the other
to grow into who we are
work for what was saved for us
we, climbing up a hill
to evolve for a redefinition of life,
we will smile about this in the end
