Values Poem by Britney Garlich

Values

What if every time you messed up one of your friends had to die?
Anytime you gossiped, drank, or told one little white lie.
Is that what you want, is that the way life should be?
You’ll regret it one day, I just wish you could see.
Who should you punish for your careless mistake?
How can you sleep knowing it’s a life you did take?
It’s not morally right or even a little bit fair.
Then you can turn around and act like you care?
Why kill a child because of your one night of fun?
Abortion isn’t the answer and your battle certainly won’t be won.
You won’t know what it’s like until you see it from their shoes.
But that’s only one of the many choices that you have to choose.
You’re hurting someone else to spare your own life.
Then why did you do it knowing you weren’t ready to be a wife?
It seems like the easy way out, but it’s the same thing as murder.
When you don’t even know someone, do you still want to hurt her?
You’ll never forget it and you’ll carry it all your days.
Knowing in the back of your head there were definitely other ways.
What if you were that baby and life was taken from you?
Things would be different, if you only knew.
So think about it next time and ask yourself why..
Next time you’re selfish should your best friend die?
