Vanishing Poem by Je'free Y .

Vanishing

For Jacob

The disappearance of some things is unexplained
People, vessels are lost in mystery, unresolved,
Becoming common; sometimes, no reason is needed.

It is in the daily news: Now you see it. Now you don't.
Evident in the death of a friend, the passing of a father -
No one truly gets to preserve anyone for eternity.

Witness surprise departures, immediate desertions -
Youth, pets, gadgets, and even places once imagined.
They all slip away from one's world so naturally.

I know of a woman who could not keep her man;
And of a mother whose children have all ran away.
Abandonment, as old as Adam, continues on and on.

I bid good-bye to a country, to a lifestyle.
It must be tough for a star to let go of fame & fortune.
We miss what we have been used to, but we live on.

It is a matter of time, and we will vanish
From each other's world as well. Accept the truth in this.
Only the image of love is retained as a memory.
