Vanquisher Poem by BELLO BIDEMI

Vanquisher

Dawn to dusk
I toiled with ardent zeal
Drudging as lowly peasants
East and west of field
With brute i slayed
Like cat in wild possessed
Sahara to Kaifeng, the victory resounds
"Outland made home, there i made king".

Flag to earth here i stick
Of labour and honour, my glorious quest
Hark now in bliss, natal land afar
The trumpets roar; the tambour striking sound
A dastard shall i return
In gloomy robe of shame?
Hah i conquered! and why not i'd be glad.

Embraced i was when earth was kissed
With love and warmth and least of hate
O this such how kvel's my soul!
Civilisation so lived of alien sort
God thee i beseech my heart preserve
There hence'll abide these folks beloved
