Vaporized Expectations Poem by Patricia Osamor

Vaporized Expectations

TO A DEAR SIS IN THE LORD

What can I say?
The Good Book says in all things give thanks
I must say that certain things happens and you wonder
Why should I give thanks, when expectations are caught short
When things go contrary to desires, proclamations, wishes and confessions

What can I say?
When you admire someone so much
Wish you could be, act and emulate their virtues
And suddenly, when you have the firms believe that reward is at hand
Like the smoke and vapor from your cooking pot evaporates into the air
They are suddenly no more, but I thought we had hopes, expectations?

What will become of these desires?
Who will carry on the virtues acts and legacies left behind?
Who would have the heart of gold to continue do the things she does?
My sun will not go down nor my moon be withdrawn, I hold on to life
God who is my everlasting light will not refrain from illuminating my path

No matter how or what I feel, disappointment or despair
Every act in life is common to man, only God can not be compared.
There is a time to work, a time to rest and a time to retire from life

Lets take heed, for the night comes when no man will work,
How we utilise the work time will determine our rest and retirement.

I imagine how I will pass by your usual seat on Sunday
Rest in Peace Dear Egbon and friends, will miss you so much
