Vegan Dragon Poem by Michael J Williams

Vegan Dragon

The giant maw of the great beast was the span of 5 or 6 men, fingertip to fingertip
It devoured whole fields of wheat and oats and maize… and filled its' gullet
And then shit out the chaff and straw and husks, in bits too small to use
For bedding for cows or sheep… if you could collect it
It was so finely spread in the stubble… its' only use was food for the earth.

Eventually this behemoth, with green skin and glowing eyes, continued its'
Twilight feast, of the fruit of the plowmen's labors, whilst taking time to expel the
Contents of its' belly periodically… so it could dine some more
It lumbered slowly, noisily on its' black and unmatched appendages… the front feet
Exponentially larger than the tiny back… it glided smoothly as it grazed on the land

The giant had a thirst for a reddish, ale colored drink… it drank gallons at a time
This foul liquid was wretched smelling, and it would burn if put to flame
This was evidenced when the beast would roar as black, thick smoke erupted from
A lone tall orifice at the top of its' head

Curiously, the monster seemed to have no interest in feasting on flesh
As men circled, whilst it rid itself of the burden of its' digestion.
The beast appeared content to devour only grain.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Just in case anybody wondered what this poem is about... it's a John Deere combine/ harvester from the perspective of a culture that has never seen modern technology. Perhaps the people from the Amazon basin who remain isolated from today's greed driven societies.
