Verbal Domestic Poem by Francis Duggan

Verbal Domestic

Billy had come home from work and as usual he was swearing
And his wife Lyn a religious sort said use your swear words more sparing
I know out of habit you swear but you ought to know better
Than opposite our children to use word that has four letters.

But Billy growled you're no better than I and you're no less a sinner
I'm hungry and I need to eat and where is my 'swear word' dinner,
I've laboured long and hard all week, you sit at home tongue wagging
And I feel that I've had enough of your unprovoked nagging.

So you think Bill I've got an easy life just lots of fun and laughter
Whilst you are working or in the pub the children I look after,
I've washing and scrubbing to do, child bathing and house cleaning
And I put up with from morning till night with children crying and screaming.

She took his dinner from the microwave oven, steak, carrots and potato
And added to that lettuce and a medium sliced tomato
And Billy wolfed his dinner down and to the pub did hurry
And left long suffering Lyn at home to toil and scrub and worry.
