Victory Poem by Hunter Hawley

Look me in the eyes
You cannot defeat me
For defeat is something that I must allow
You can beat me
Burn me
Humiliate and hate me
But you cannot defeat me
Just as I cannot defeat you
And that is a concept that I must get thru
People allow themselves
The luxury of saying
'I have done all I can do'
When in reality
The actions they've taken are
None to few

Think on that a second
Nothing can defeat us
Please don't get me wrong
It's not an easy process
To get up after a fall
And say to yourself
'I can keep going'
'I am powerful'
'This will not defeat me'

But wait a second
Whats so hard about that?
We all wish that we could
Convince others of our ideas
But we cannot even convince ourselves
So we put our dreams on shelves
Out of our own reach
And why?
Why do we accept defeat?
We do it because we lack the heat
From the tops of our heads
To the bottoms of our feet
That combines with our souls
And sets our passion ablaze
The heat that helps us realize
That struggle is only a phase
A phase that has the most of us
Retreat to the couch and Lays
But not you
For you cannot be defeated
Your passion
It must be heated
And when you've reached your goals
Then you may be seated
But until then

You must fight
All day
And all night
Until the problem is the solution
And the solution
It is right
And trust me
You can be a light
With your gifts
And your dreams,
Your talents and your schemes
And trust me
I know that it can suck
Swimming against the stream
It can feel like you are stuck
Getting through another day
It starts to feel like luck
Every time that someone swings
You know that you must duck
Until you build the courage
To say 'I don't give a...'
'Damn'

What have we done?
Since when do we allow ourselves
To be hopeless
To feel worthless
To see our worth less

And please trust me
I may be young
But a wise man once told me
That true value
Comes from within
To give our power away
Now that is a true sin
I guess what I'm trying to say is
You're stronger than you think
When you allow yourself to stop swimming
That is when you will sink
And things will drag you down
That's just how it goes
All you have to do
Is make sure that that thing knows
You cannot defeat me
For defeat is something that I must allow
It may have worked before
But it sure will not work now
