Visual Purple Poem by Mehreen Mujeeb

Visual Purple

Writer's block
Thoughts I lock
Caged birds by the flock
In different hertz time sings tick tock
Trying to compress years into a clock
In my mind I talk
Somehow conversations don't walk
I am not even worth a mock.

I felt as though I could no longer write,
But here i am with visual purple,
Facing the bright light.

My pupil tries to break free from my iris
As if my lashes want to claw away all the distance.

Why can't you understand?
I know I am the one who can
But sometimes,
I need to hear your words
To blacksmith my keys.

It's different if you don't want
To help me up from my bruised knees.

Time snails by
As days race away
And I just lost
All my research on routes.

My head aches
When my heart tries to make
Sense of my thoughts.

Don't let the bright light,
Bleach you like chlorine bleaches colours.
