Voyager Poem by Alan Waterhouse

Voyager

As the day changes to the next
I find a cloak of darkness before me
So rich and so deep it affords those who wear it
a shroud of anonymity
And those who do adorn it become as deep and dark
in heart as it was once itself.

Though I hide my mortality well
I encompass this sea of darkness
I ride its ebb and hide from the eyes of others
But voyagers in this mist of lightlessness
need not eyes that see but frozen souls that know
And though they know they know not me.

I seek not immortality in this seamless vein
But truth in the understanding of its being
seeking answers to questions others dare not ask
And as the cold winds of the night tear the righteous
fruit from the tree so it cools my own soul
and I yearn once again for the warmth of the sun.
