Waiting Poem by James Papastamos

Waiting

They waited anxiously for God
That He deliver bread and wine;
To scatter crumbs of broken pride
Intoxicating yet divine

The hands of time had raped us all
And danced upon our ageless soul;
Our bodies weightless deep within
What circumstance might leave such toll

My doctor’s voice grew louder yet
Alarms would sound familiar thought;
Of days gone by, and ways to die
I lived on edge, untied its knot

Dear God, please save what’s left to call
