Waiting For The Right Person To Come Along Poem by Maureen Carey

Waiting For The Right Person To Come Along

Michelangelo carved his statue 'David' out of a block of marble that everyone said was no good. They all laughed at him and called him a fool. They said that he was only wasting his time as the marble belonged in the dump.

However, Michelangelo saw the possibility lying in the block of marble and saw something in it that no one else did. It was just waiting for the right person to come along, and see it with new and different eyes. It needed someone to look beyond its obvious faults and imperfections and see the deeper reality.

Others tried for awhile and hacked away at the marble, but only Michelangelo was able to scratch beneath its surface and create the world famous David from the same block of marble that everyone said was worthless and unusable. So, there it sat in a corner, ignored and forgotten until Michelangelo entered the scene and had a greater vision for it.

The block of worthless 'marble' was just waiting for the right person to come along and coax out of it a thing of beauty, a masterpiece to be admired. The stirrings of 'David' were definitely there in the marble, but it needed someone who could see past what others could and embrace its beauty. It just needed the right person to give it a voice and a form.

I am also waiting for the right person to come along, someone who will see the masterpiece within. I am waiting for someone to come along who will look beyond my faults and shortcomings and invite a work of beauty, a paragon of perfection.

Isn't that moment glorious when someone invites you to be more than you were before and carves you into a reality beyond your wildest imaginings?
