Wakan Tanka Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Wakan Tanka

Great Spirit, Wakan Tanka, so high,
You're in the earth, the wind, the sky.
Not just one place, but everywhere,
In all that lives, beyond compare.

'We are all one, ' the people say,
Related to all, come what may.
To plant, to stone, to furry friend,
A family bond that has no end.

Each day a prayer, a gentle sign,
With song and smoke, a gift divine.
A bit of prayer, a whispered plea,
To honor You, for all to see.

The sacred pipe, a special hold,
To speak with You, a story told.
First smoke sent up, to heavens bright,
Then out to winds, with all its might.

Young ones seek, on lonely ground,
For visions deep, where truth is found.
To fast and pray, for days so long,
To hear Your whisper, clear and strong.

The sweat lodge warm, a cleansing fire,
To wash away, our deep desire.
To humble hearts, and minds made new,
Before the Great Spirit, ever true.

The Sun Dance bright, a summer call,
To thank You Lord, for one and all.
With fasting deep, and trials faced,
New life renewed, Your love embraced.

Wise men guide, with gentle hand,
To hear Your voice, throughout the land.
They dream and heal, and lead the way,
Connected to You, night and day.
