Walls And Weight And A Wake Poem by Trevor Toews

Walls And Weight And A Wake

There aren't walls high enough, you said
And there aren't
No rule or mandate
Can keep a curious youth from wandering
And I wonder, is there any good in safety?
These protections that we have in place,
Are they just weakening the shield around the heart?
Oh, but the weight!
We have no chance to try it twice,
To experiment, lest we are wrong,
We must be sure.
Our dear children are at stake
And generations in their wake!
