Wanderlust In Him Poem by Francis Duggan

Wanderlust In Him

The wanderlust in him for places elsewhere
So he went to see life in the big World out there
Far from the wooded hills of the gray kangaroo
And the big dark brown parrots known as yellow tailed black cockatoo

In a big eastern city he is living today
With his wife and young daughter and another baby on the way
Content in his life though sometimes he does visualize
The laughter of the kookaburra in a country sunrise

And male koala high on a gum tree
In his hoarse voice proclaiming territory
Though in the city for the long stay
The country from his thoughts never far away

He miss the call of the currawong
And the butcherbird's familiar bubbling song
But with a two year old daughter and a pregnant wife
He is settled in to city life.
