War Poem by Nellie Isabelle Steward Cooper

War

It is an awful-awful thought that we may
completely blow the earth apart or devastate
our planet beyond any possible repair

The world ripped apart and bare:

All this taking place, happening, or otherwise occurring
before I die

Of course everyone dies... eventually

I... being no exception to
the rule - that remains
no one lives forever

Tis the truthful refrain

Maybe the phrase should be
no one lives any more on this
particular planet as before

It being gone and no longer here
as it once was... while we took
our so very short stroll

Through green fields that...were so green

Are people just toooo smart
for their own good or worse...? ?

We shall see, as time will surely tell

Will it be heaven or will it be hell...? ? ?
please don't hold your breath or dwell

It being of no use, for you to do so
For to the war we all shall go, go, go...! ! !

There appears to be no cure for this madness we
embrace with such mighty energy and great gusto

Soner or later all things come to an end... my dear friend
a trite and oft used phrase...you may happen to know

War
