War Of Elements Poem by Alex Lane

War Of Elements

On an evening destiny had set aside
I had left my heart open wide
when someone came and slammed it shut
it was then that I sealed it up
It was bursting brilliance as I withdrew
down it sunk into deepest blue
and the sea offered in return
to replace my heartbeat with its churn
so no feeling would ever last very long
no sentiment however strong
could fight the turbulence and be washed
in time and disarray it is lost

In the morning I saw the sunrise beaming
it took some thought from my wing
and in a downward spin I was sure
decay was just one more thing to endure
I was careening towards the terminal trade
but my train of thought had been delayed
and the wind replied like a child
it could calm those demons growing wild
so I let him into my stricken frame
soon my mind was a hurricane
blowing down torture chambers of old
gone were the memories I didn't hold

By the aftermath I was out here alone
I began to hear old friends groan
they were marching forward with their pain
as they drew close I heard them complain
I had deserted them in their time of hardship
it was then I let my secret slip
that their world was a bloody war
not knowing what they were fighting for
so I placed my hand upon the ground
soon they warred to bring me down
but the earth turned my skin to stone
so all their weapons could not break one bone
so I wait here until they should withdraw
knowing maybe they never will
but I'll hold my ground for every son going down
in hope some day mercy will spill

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
There is no point to this poem, it merely twists up two separate cultural ideas into a narrative. Maybe it relates to a form of Buddhahood but I forget.
