Warm Bed Poem by Edwin Hopper

Warm Bed

Remember happiness is rare and not a right
If you trust someone to share your day
Hold on to their love in the warm bed night

Together at dusk there is less cause for fright
Loving couples protect each other and they
Remember happiness is rare and not a right

Forgive and make peace before the night
Try to play, not burn and rage at end of day
Hold on to their love in the warm bed night

Treat your lover well, keep them in your sight
Old age is lonely when you get to close of play
Remember happiness is rare and not a right

Love your children and show them what is right
Help them grow and go, from home, so that they
Hold on to their love in the warm bed night

Before you dream in your final endless night
Thank God you both had time to love and play
Remember happiness is rare and not a right
Hold on to their love in the warm bed night
