Waves Poem by Gordon D Wilkinson

Waves

Rating: 5.0

Waves crashing in on the rocks
Slowly chipping
Carving its initials, etching away
Making nooks for the crabs
Undercuts filling with sand
Throwing up flotsam
Coconuts from far off lands
Lumps of sticky oil
Abandoned by some ship
Creatures’ carcasses some so weird
An odd shoe here and there
Reclaiming them from our gaze
Repeatedly, the cycle goes on
Waves crashing down
What will the next tide bring?
Broken pottery or a diamond ring
Let the beachcombers find its worth
Finding the secrets of the tide
Another wave crashes in
More bounty from the sea
