We Are All Human After All Poem by Kenneth Maswabi

We Are All Human After All

It's not the DNA that makes us human
Nor the protruded IQ
It's the society that determines our humanity
A perimeter has been erected
To guide and nurture us
To undress all the undesirable traits
And clothe us with humanity
But what is humanity?
Humanity is the vault of our collective consciousness
An envelope holding our collective psyche
A sophisticated filter that analysis our deepest intentions
An archive for our ambitions, passions and desires
A fluid system which compresses us into one near-perfect human being
And finally it's a path of success for all human beings
It's through this gigantic phenomenon
That human beings are able to succeed
And find peace in the realm of turbulence
The deepest part of our being is founded on goodness, community and love
It's only through the erosion of our spiritual anchor
That we are now turning to individualism, competition and selfishness for support
Humanity is the spirit that guides us into the path of light
For eons of years, human beings have held onto their spiritual anchor
Now science and capitalism have anesthetized our spirit
And religion is on a path of spiritual redundancy
It's only through the painful path of spiritual awakening
That we can find our path again
And Love can be our light
And hope can be our compass
And our faith can be sealed
