We Are Immortal Poem by Marcia Schechinger

We Are Immortal

Rating: 5.0

Just before starlight
sky and earth breathe together
blushing warm and sweet
Pink the skies explode
as they touch
then drawing down slowly
they seep into darkness

The moon-filtered candle
ignites star-like votives
I imagine the wind is
whispering love songs
sighing as they depart into
night's magic
It reminds me of gods
and goddesses
stories of eternal love

Slowly I linger at my door
revel in this illusive dream
stroke my hair to luster,
softening it to parallel earths coating
Then laying out my flesh
you become the sky
wrapping me, taking me to the shadows
where we drift through stars
of passion with the moonlight

It's the mystery of a summer's night
here we can dream, change ourselves
into gods and goddesses
knowing we are as much part
of the universe as any
Greek mythology
Procreating earth this night
with the miracle of child
Eventualy to be tombed
as our babies bear babies
and we are immortal

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Marieta Maglas 30 August 2009

'' For the gods create new segments of Cosmos by consorting with each other, and these new segments, being gods, are both created and procreated. Consequently, the mythical accounts, no matter how much they might differ in their details, regard Creation and Procreation as one and the same thing. In this view 'creation is the outcome of an encounter, and genesis is a product of interaction.' (Arnold Toynbee, A Study of History) . '' excellent abstract poem.................10+++
