We Are What We Are Poem by Francis Duggan

We Are What We Are

Though many with what I say may not agree
We are what we are that is all we can be
On our journeys through life we follow our destiny
At least anyway that's how it seems to me
Though some will tell you our own misery we create
I do not know of anyone who does not aspire to be great
And I do not know of anyone who embrace poverty
Who would choose to live and die in misery
In a Human World where billions compete for success
You will not find many who know of true happiness
Those who look up to the so called successful live in every village and city and town
Yet those they look up to on others look down
Yet we are what we are despite what many do say
And we all live our lives in our own sort of way.
