We Are What We Think Poem by Francis Duggan

We Are What We Think

Do you ever ask yourself what life is about
And your worth as a person do you ever doubt
Or are you one of those buoyed by high self esteem?
We are what we think we are that's how it does seem.

Are you blinkered to your faults by your self conceit?
It is not a crime to live with self deceit
A perfect person is one I have not known
We all have our faults and our faults are our own.

Even though he does wear a hairpiece for hair
Do you feel envious of the aged millionaire?
Some of us feel good fortune is not on our side
And with our own lives we are not satisfied.

The beauty in Nature we struggle to see
And we are what we think we are 'twould seem to me
To the scythe of the Reaper we eventually fall
There is a last day and last night for us all.
