We Can Always Be Assured Of This Fact Poem by Raymond Farrell

We Can Always Be Assured Of This Fact

We can always be assured
Of this fact
It will not be the big shot
At the front line
Nor will any of his kin
Be among the dead and maimed
No
He and his always manage
To do just fine
With the odd exception
The remains to be claimed
Are those of the common people
Whose children were drafted
Or volunteered
They seldom really know why
But they and theirs
Are always the ones to die
