We Can Choose Our Friends Poem by Francis Duggan

We Can Choose Our Friends

We can choose our friends but not our family
That is how it is and it will always be
Our life choices limited it does seem to me
Though with that there would be some to disagree
Some believe that we choose our parents happens to be true
But to be born to poor parents is not any child's due
In any case such a thing I cannot believe
Though we can sow the karma from life we receive
The future for anyone who can foretell
But for people there is an Earthly heaven and hell
And millions sad to say are living hungry and rough
Through no fault of their own they are doing it tough
We cannot choose our parents or siblings but we can choose a friend
And for all the life's journey must come to an end.
