We Dig Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

We Dig

We dig - we dig - we dig -
ground and round
Diggin - we
Digging We dig - we dig - e dug….
Going
But always digging
Unearthing no treasure
Except for small rocks
And stones, stones, stones.
up we looked
S to s
Why/?
Why, ? Why?
Without words uttering
We looked up
And the Harsh voice
Clamoring
We dared not look
Work
Work
Continue
Arid stones only
Nor gems and diamond of the East
And thirst
Thirst
Thirst
Hot the Sun
Then baked us
The Sun.

Then
At sunset
Dusk
The Hoare Voice in white
Continued working us
Without ruth
without pity I in horror times.

Continued the Harsh Voice
from time to time
Continued
Continued
