We Don't Care Poem by Randy McClave

We Don't Care

We don't care about a shooting
Until we know someone who has been shot,
We don't care about the poor or the hungry
Until the Bible we are taught.
We don't care about someone's past
Or how their beliefs were shaped,
We don't care about the accusations from women
Until we know a female who was assaulted or raped.
We don't care at all about gays
Until they are a family member or a friend
We don't care at all about the religions of others
So, unto Hell them we will happily send.
We don't care what our politicians do
Even if they are adulterers, racists or if they lie or cuss,
We really don't mind or care what they do or say
Unless they, or a situation directly attacks us.
