We Overcame Poem by Astell Collins

We Overcame

As a people, our coming together in a coming togetherness
Testifies of our undertaking to re-establish our oneness
We are the people sharing Africa, and as the body of God
We stand in atonement before our Lord

He reconciles us for our defiance
Thus, we are one voice in the shared spirit of repentance
We augment the relevance of our spirituality
As we commemorate our freedom in the splendour of unity

South Africans you are undeniably blessed
For you were promised and is given sweet rest
With blood, over time, to this land freedom came
And despite unimaginable adversities, you overcame
