We Slaves Choose Our Masters: Debt, Addiction, Authority - Poem by Alice Perfect

FREE are not the souls
of those sorely beholden!

Beholden to debt

your master owns you,
the winner of the bet
he controls how you spend your time.
and makes sure you worry and fret

Beholden to addiction:

your master is your puppeteer
he's both pulling strings
to make you dance
while hand is up your rear

Beholden to authority:

as insidious as it gets
you go amnesiac
your soul then forgets

where true power lies
seeing only truth is real
you follow natural law
and love you never kill

none need tell you
a single thing to do
you already have heaven
but hidden inside of you
