We Will Be There Poem by Christopher McKay

We Will Be There

So many days have passed
And only so many are left.
We wait so very eagerly
To hear that sound of your first breath.
The first day we see your eyes
The first day we hold you tight.
As you sleep now in a dark womb
Another star to appear at night.
Another day to wait
Until we awake to your cries.
But you won't have to fear
Because we will be there to wipe your eyes.
To cradle your love
To hinder your fear.
Our beautiful baby girl
We cannot wait until you are here.
Till then we can only imagine
We can dream and pretend.
But we know you are still with us
Until the very end.
Until the day you leave
When you walk out the door
We will remember then what is now,
We will tell stories of before.
But until then our child
You are the reason for our days,
To tend to your every need
To watch you grow and develop ways.
To watch you learn and receive
Your tiny life is our gift,
When we feel down or sad
Just the thought of you gives our spirits lift.
We will give all our love
Nourish, guidance and care.
When times become tough
Baby we will be there.
We will honor and support
Your decision as our daughter.
Since two became one,
Since we became mother and father.
With open arms
You are always welcome,
With open hearts
We have made you a home.
So when you are ready for the world
Honey don't ever be scared.
Our Emberly Autumn,
Mommy and daddy will always be there.
