Weepy Dreamer Poem by C.Ann Penning

Weepy Dreamer

Awakes the maiden in her slumber
Finds herself in awesome wonder
Wipes her eyes in disbelief
To see such things as she did see

Magical secrets, legends of charmers
Guarded by tall dark ancient soldiers
Lush verdant, earthly whispers beget
Valiant warriors into an evening minuet

Amber showers unveil a mystic floor
Bursting forth golden jewels galore
Swaying in song; a maiden fair; poor
Gracefully crowned a majestic queen
Saddened to think it only a dream

Enchanted, radiant, swift little messengers
Whispering ghostly mesmerizing banters
Carry her away to a brook of laurel and willows
A charming prince; messengers propose

Adorned with tiny laurel flowers; a veil
Of ceremonial willow archways unveil
Crickets bellowing a sweet processional
And murmuring frogs; tearful

One by one to the altar; wart covered; slimy
Frogs of all colors, shapes and sizes; blowzy
Kiss by kiss; nothing but toads; betrayed
She fell to her knees feeling dismayed

Weepy willows pull back her hair
Wipe her tears and comfort her there
Awakes the maiden from her slumber
Finds herself only a weepy dreamer
