I remember who I used to be,
A girl who couldn't always see,
The difference between love and pain,
So she stayed and stayed again.
She built her home in storms and rain,
Convinced that hurt was worth the strain,
She gave away her heart each day,
And watched herself just fade away.
I see her in my memories still,
Fighting battles through sheer will,
Carrying burdens far too deep,
Losing rest and losing sleep.
If I could reach her through the years,
I'd wipe away her hidden tears,
I'd tell her she was strong enough,
Even when the road was rough.
I'd say, 'The scars you carry now
Will teach your heart and show you how,
To find your worth, to trust your voice,
To make a different kind of choice.'
For every wound became a guide,
A steady light I hold inside,
And every fall that brought me low
Planted seeds that helped me grow.
Some nights I hear her calling still,
Afraid to climb another hill,
So I remind her through the night,
That darkness never stops the light.
'Look how far you've come, ' I say,
'You found your strength along the way,
The chains you wore are finally gone,
And you kept moving, carried on.'
The pain that once lived in my heart
No longer tears my soul apart,
Its weight became the wings I wear,
And lifted me beyond despair.
So now I walk beneath the sky,
With open hands and lifted eyes,
The past no longer pulls me down,
I've traded sorrow for my crown.
We're okay now, safe and free,
The woman she hoped I would be,
And though her struggles brought me through,
I'm proud of her—she never knew.
Because the storms that shook my soul,
Helped make a broken spirit whole,
And every step through fear somehow
Led me here—
We're okay now.
