Were You The One? Poem by Keith Langdon

Were You The One?

In quiet hush of infant day,
The room was cast in black and gray,
When I was startled from my sleep
With knocking at my door.

As I lay staring at the wall,
Had anything been heard at all?
Or was it scenes within my dreams
That nudged me from my sleep?

Half holding breath as moments pass,
Night shadows dancing on the glass,
Dim, glowing numbers softly read
Exactly 2 a.m.

And then we talked, the Lord and I,
And in my heart I asked Him why,
He woke me in the depth of night,
And then I knew - to pray.

And so I prayed, and my request
Was that before return to rest,
God gave the name of one in need
Whose angels need empowered.

And though into my mind there came
No single need or person's name,
All-knowing God in wisdom great
Knew where to place His touch.

And even now, I do believe,
That someone's burden was relieved,
Because the Lord knocked at my door,
And woke me up to pray.

Were you the one?

Were you the one God meant for me
To lift in prayer, from burden free?
Were you the one in demons' hold
Whose heart to others was not told?
Whatever may have been the need,
I thank the Lord that I could heed
His call to pray in dark of night,
To set his guardian angels flight.
I pray - Were you the one?
